What's New?
It's time to raise all our voices in unison to support public education. Educators, parents, students and community members will have the opportunity to speak as one on Saturday, June 8, at the Capitol in Albany.

Thousands of New Yorkers are expected to join together on that day in a Fight for the Future of Public Education. Their voice - your voice - needs to be heard in this era of attacks on our profession and on what's good for students. (click below to watch the video)

WILL YOU BE THERE? Video produced by Joe Karb and Ben Higgins of Springville Faculty Association.

NYSUT President Richard Iannuzzi gave the rallying cry at last week's Representative Assembly when he said:

"Our collective voice must not be wasted or depleted frivolously through unbridled passion, nor should it be left to die on the vine or be reasoned into oblivion. We have come too far in nurturing that voice.

"Our collective voice speaks loud and clear, but there is still more to be done. In his second inaugural address, President Obama told America it was time 'to complete the journey.' We know  that the journey cannot be completed without our voice - without the voice of unions - without the voice of public workers - without public education."

Can we count on you? It's time to stand up as a united front and have our voices heard! Save the date - 6.8.13 - and spread the word. Free bus transportation will provided. Information will be forthcoming.

Support the 2013 Fair Elections Act!

Any more bids on the 2014 elections? Any more bids? Going once…going twice...SOLD to the highest bidder!

Every election season, campaigns become more expensive, with success at the ballot box directly connect to fundraising. That means that politicians spend more and more time raising money, that more and more, the voices of wealthy donors drown out the voices of middle-class and working-class New Yorkers, and that shadowy front groups have more and more power to decide who takes office and what they do once they get there.

It is time for change.

Take action now at the NYSUT Member Action Center to support the 2013 Fair Elections Act!

The 2013 Fair Elections Act provides a comprehensive and balanced approach to this problem. The bill contains significant and realistic limits on election expenditures and campaign contributions. In addition, the bill also includes a means for recovering public funds when they are unspent or used for prohibited purposes. It also includes penalties for violations of the filing requirements or the expenditure limitations for participants.

Take action now at the NYSUT Member Action Center to support the 2013 Fair Elections Act!

Polls are showing strong support for campaign finance and election reform across the state, and now is our opportunity to push through changes that will level the election playing field!

In solidarity,

Andrew Pallotta
NYSUT Executive Vice President
